So day two and we have had snow, which kind of helps as we are on a cross country ski camp. 9 days left of ski, gym, ski and my lungs are already burning from the cold air and altitude.
Had an interesting day today as it was -10 the squad bus was frozen solid so took 30 minuets to defrost it. We couldn’t slide the doors open until lunch time, we then got stuck on a hill and had to fit snow chains in the middle of the road which we had no idea how to do!! Think we upset a few locals. :S
We have been having lunch and dinner at a restaurant down the road as the chef has done a runner for a few days, so it’s quite nice to get out and get some fresh air. As if we don’t already…
It’s good to go somewhere different though bit of culture and all that.
That’s about it for now as I have writers block!
Hopefully have some cool pictures by then end of camp.
Laters….

After a 4am start and a 13 hour drive (which I spent a good 10 sleeping) we have finally arrived in the lovely St.Moritz. unfortunately there does not seem to be much snow.... we are going to head down to the ski hire shop in the morning to get our skis and hopefully find a good stretch of cross country track, there is snow in tomorrows forecast so fingers crossed.

KRISTIAN REEVES is unlikely to ever find himself
up a creek without a paddle.
Having forced his way to World and European
prominence, he has an Olympic gold in his sights
– in London next year.
The 22-year-old’s rise has been a steep one since
he first got into kayaking through the Virginia
Water Scout Group before he began sprinting at
Addlestone Canoe Club. In eight years of compe-
tition his achievements have come in waves.
He was 10th in the World Cup 1, K2 200m, while
in the U23 European Championship he was fifth
in the K1 200m. A ninth followed in the World
Championships 4x200m relay.
His latest outing was a commendable ninth
in the world, in the 4x200m relay, while his
next event is in April at the National Regatta in
Nottingham. Yet, his main focus is the 200m and
an Olympic berth.
He said: “Next year I have to beat last year’s
world champion and the current second in the
world. I have been getting closer after being
injured. I am two seconds quicker than last year,
which, for the 200m is massive. I am 0.5secs off
the British paddler I need to beat. My ambition
would be to win the 2012 Games in K1 200m.”
Reeves, who grew up in Staines and went to
Magna Carta School, is part of the Holiday Inn
Athlete Employment Programme, working in the
Shepperton premises. “This has been the busiest
year of my kayaking career so far with a vigorous
training schedule,” he said. “This means I haven’t
been able to work as much as I would like. I enjoy
working at the hotel, the staff are friendly and
supportive. It’s really good to be able to do some-
thing other than train and earn some money.
“My hours are flexible. It’s all about balance, so
when it comes to competition time I will cut work
to a minimum. When it’s winter training and I’m
not out of the country I can do more shifts.”
One gets the feeling he will be out of the country
a lot more in future. Reeves: Super effort.

World Championships 9th in the World!
About time!
So I thought it would be a good idea to set up a website December last year. But being a little slow when it comes to using a computer let alone designing a website I got my good friend Matt Hide to set it up! Thanks matt! This is the reason for lack of updates, I have now taken some time to learn how to use this software and going to make an effort to make this site a bit more interesting…. That’s if you enjoy reading about me like I do! Hahahah
Brief round up of 2011
I have been very busy this year starting with skiing and Australia (last blog) we then went on to Spain to do a bit more warm weather training then came home for our first international regatta in sunny Nottingham which lead to me being selected for all 3 world cups in K2 200m K1 200m and 4x200m relay. Best results were world cup one coming 10th and the 200m relay 7th in world cup 3. After jumping back into my K1 for a month, I then went on to compete in the U23 European championships in Croatia in the K1 200m where I came 5th which is a slight improvement on 19th last year! (Injured) This was a good result considering my struggle with injury last year, and missing the start of winter training. It was good to be racing and on good form again, I had learnt a lot which became clear at the world championships later on in the year.
World championships Hungary
So after a good result at world cup 3 in Germany myself Ed Cox, Andy Daniels and Ben Farrell who was also doing K2 1000m with the Timmy B Olympic champion!! We were selected for the 4x200m relay. This is not an Olympic discipline but it DAM well should be as it’s the most exciting event in my eyes and anything can happen… I will try get the footage on my video page if I can find it. How it works 9 lanes 4 legs going back and forth, I took the first leg stating at the finish, this Is why there is a lovely photo of the back of my head (above), then followed by Andy Ben Ed… we blasted through the heat and made the final where we came in 9th which is a very creditable result considering 2 of our team are 1000m paddlers’ at heart!
Back to the important stuff my leg of the final was the best 200m I have ever raced! I came in a close 2nd in a time of 34.9 to give you an idea the K1 200m was won in a time of 34.3 ish and I did a time of 36.5 at the U23 earlier in the year so made a massive jump in the space of 2 months!
So I finished of the year feeling positive and excited for the 2012 season.
The plan moving forward
So back to winter training and excited to be starting on time injury free for the first in what feels like years! We are off to St Moritz on 11th of December back on the 23rd just in time for Christmas.
This is a cross country ski camp and also be doing some gym, this is NOT a holiday its very hard work but also pretty fun for the first week!!! ;) Then we are heading to South Africa on 15th of January for 3 weeks home for 10 days then 3 more weeks. Warm weather camp lots of water work! Then heading to Spain for a bit more sun before our first national regatta in April selection for world cups which is were the fun begins……….
Ordered new kayak today which is very exciting if your into boats like me! Will posts picture when it arrives.
